Mannur village, Havery District, Karnataka-March 31st, 2010: Tata Relief Committee (TRC) has undertaken a project to construct the Mannur village, situated in Haveri Taluka, Haveri District in Karnataka.

The village, situated 30kms from the district headquarters of Haveri, was devastated by severe floods last year. TRC will build 144 housing units of 275 sq feet each in the village. In addition, the project envisages the construction of community centre, school building, Primary Health centre, Bus Stop etc.

The foundation stone for the project was laid at Mannur village today by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B S Yeddyurappa. Also present at the function held here today to mark the beginning of the construction work at the village site were Sri C M Udasi, Karnataka’s minister for PWD, Mr H M Nerurkar, MD Tata Steel and Mr Partha Sengupta, Vice President () Tata Steel and Vice Chairman of TRC.

Addressing the function, Shri Yeddyurappa said that the Govt of Karnataka acknowledges the ‘benevolent gesture’ of the Tata Group which had taken the initiatives to construct Mannur village.

Mr C M Udasi thanked Tata Relief Committee for undertaking the construction of Mannur village.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Nerurkar said, “It has been our guiding principle of the House of Tata to undertake welfare projects for the development of our country and the well being of our society. The ethos of the Tata group companies has been to undertake such projects since it believes that the primary responsibility of an industrial enterprise is to improve the quality of life of the people,” he said.

Mr Nerurkar said Tata Steel has a major investment proposal for the Haveri district. This would create employment opportunities for the youth and generate additional revenues for the State Govt.
