PEOPLE in the capital need to be aware of the fact that Ozone therapy is a boon for the slip disc and several other pains as no surgical intervention is needed in this therapy, said Dr. Arti darda from nagpur an interventional pain specialist, who was in chhattisgarh capital on sunday .
Director of Darda pain clinic, Gautam super specialty Hospital, Dr. Darda told the Hitavada that ozone is natural gas having properties as anti- inflammatory. As a pain medicine it is effective against slip disc, discogenic pain , knee arthritis , frozen shoulder, ankle and joint pain and rheumatoid arthritis .
Elaborating on slip disc, Dr. Darda said, it causes compression over the nerves and the consequences are back pain, sciatica, ridiculer pain to lrg and tingling numbness in the leg and soul.
In ozone therapy, fluoroscopy image guided needle is introduced in disc Ozone absorbs the water in the jelly like water containing structure in the inner ring of the disc.
It thus compact the disc and release compression over the nerves. The cure requires not even a day’s stay in the hospital, Dr. Darda said, adding the success rate is from 80 to 90 percent.
Surgical intervention of slip disc and other above said cases requires at least five to seven days hospital stay. Though the success rate in the surgical way is equal, but operation is risky for diabetic and hart patients. But, the ozone therapy is safe for all patients, she highlighted. Ozone therapy is presently available in Delhi , kolkata, Mumbai and nagpur.
The charges varies and it is from Rs. 15,000 to 20,000 charged for one disc , but the charges Dr. Darda takes is from Rs. 5,000 to 7,000 .
Jyoti Verma age 26/f complained of low back pain with pain in right lower limb since Dec 2009 due to lifting of heavy weight. It got aggravated from16 June 2009.Due to severe pain she could not walk and suffered limping as well. She took consultation from orthropaedician in Bhilai. He advised to do MRI of the lumber spine. MRI lumber spine showed massive L5-S1 intervertribral disc protrusion in-denting compression over exiting nerve root. she again showed an orhopaedician and was advised surgery for massive disc prolapsed thus she contacted Dr.Arti Darda, an interventional pain specialist for ozone therapy on 10/07/09.she was taken to the operation theater and with the help of imaging technique she was given injection of ozone in the offending disc. The procedure was done under local anesthesia and it took all 20 minutes. she got relieved of the pain and now she can walk and there is no limping either. It is nearly a year now, she is absolutely alright. Ozone is made up of three molecules of oxygen. Injection it in the disc has no side effect at all. As a matter of fact the third molecule takes away the water content of disc which is 80% thus collapsing. The disc and relieving the pressure on the nerve and spinal cord. Even multiple disc can be treated with Ozone injection enabling the patient to avoid going through the trauma of surgery. Ozone therapy has 80% to 90% success rate in treatment of disc prolapsed, discogenic pain Sciatica. Unlike surgery, Ozone therapy has multiple user on orthopedic conditions like knee arthritis, Frozen Shoulder, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Diabetic neuritis.
Q. What are advantages of therapy?
Ans.-advantages of ozone therapy are without surgery, with out anesthesia, without admission to hospital pain will treated in half-an-hour. There are no disadvantages of ozone therapy.
