Swasthe Bachche - A Special Health Camp for Underprivileged Children in Champa, Chattisgarh,
New Delhi, October, 2011: MoserBaer in partnership with Smile Foundation conducted a special health camp to monitor the growth and sight of underprivileged children in two Primary Schools in Champa, Chattisgarh. The objective of the health camp is to reduce the cases of malnourishment of children by early diagnosis as well as promote awareness on cleanliness for better child health.
The health camp covered approximately 150 students from Pre-Primary to class Vth from the two schools of village Gatwa namely Shishu Mandir Private School and Govt. Primary School.

On the occasion, Vitamin A supplement/ iron tablets / deworming medicines were distributed free of cost to the children as per their requirement. In addition, an awareness building session on cleanliness was conducted by the doctor with all the students so that children take into account basic aspects of health and hygiene.
The activity was conducted as part of partnership between Smile Foundation and MoserBaer to run ‘Mobile Health Unit’ for the underprivileged communities in Champa, Chattisgarh. Under this program, Smile Foundation is providing comprehensive healthcare services for underprivileged communities through an equipped mobile medical unit with 100% financial contribution from Moser Baer as part of their CSR initiative. The project is undertaken in close partnership and coordination with MoserBaer’s CSR team located at Champa – Janjgir. This project is covering 14 villages in Janjgir - Champa and has benefitted over 6400 underprivileged beneficiaries since May 2011.
“Smile Foundation set up Smile on Wheels, to address problems of mobility, accessibility and availability of primary healthcare services in rural areas and urban slums of the country. This lack of basic facilities results in neglect of even the simplest preventive medical treatment and usually leads to a more serious ailment and many a time into deaths. In such a scenario a mobile medical services delivery system emerged as the most practical mechanism. And in subscription to this view, Smile Foundation has initiated the Smile on Wheels in Chattisgarh. The other states where the program is operational with other partners are Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
About the programme, Mr. Harish Nandan Sahay – Director Operations, Smile Foundation said, “Smile on Wheels is an initiative of Smile Foundation through which we reach out to the community with comprehensive healthcare services rather than the community coming to the clinic for provisions. It is because of the uniqueness of the programme that we have been able to directly benefit a population of more than 2.5 lacs with our health services. This has also been possible because of the support of corporates and like-minded organizations. The unique concept of public private partnership has really helped in facilitating health care services to the door steps of underprivileged communities.”
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Gopal Krishna, VP Project & Head Chhattisgarh, MoserBaer said, “We believe an important part of doing business is to give back to the community that you live in. An association between MoserBaer and Smile Foundation for their Smile on Wheels programme, is an effort to reach out to as many communities as possible so that the basic health care facilities are made available in the rural parts of India.”
